Abstract

Clinicians, irrespective of the setting, need to respond to change. Cultural change involves them in: whole episodes of care, not just technical events; whole of systems performance, not just their own, and the development of better ways of planning treatment to achieve desired outcomes. Most importantly clinicians must participate in teams. Clinicians’ participation is critical in the decision making processes involved in information systems development methodologies. None more so than in the aged care sector.

The purpose of this case study presentation is to describe the processes undertaken in an aged care facility in the development phase of an integrated information management system. Highlighted is the relationship between the systems development company and the predominately, nursing workforce.

Case Study

ANZAC Retirement Village, Narrabeen NSW (RSL LifeCare) has recently installed the integrated leecareplus™ Super Program. The information system provides a single interface for Management & Safety Systems and Residential Care & Lifestyle programs. The Residential Care & Lifestyle program includes admission assessments; comprehensive assessments & lifestyle plans; summary or long-term instant care plans, progress notes, and incident management programs.
