John Roach, CEO - Health Support Services.


Biography

John has had over 30 years of experience working within the NSW Public Service. Throughout his career his interest has been in improving financial management at an operational and executive level and developing commercially focused approaches to the delivery of corporate services and public infrastructure.

John was appointed Chief Executive, Health Support Services to consolidate two separate reporting entities of HealthSupport and HealthTechnology into a single delivery arm providing corporate, IT and business services across NSW Health. John’s main focus is to ensure that the establishment of a Shared Service environment for these services delivers consistent and improving levels of service to his customers. Providing Health Support Services in a competitive environment, being commercially focused, achieving real improvements in performance and cost whilst sustaining this over time are his major challenges.

Prior to commencing at Health Support Services John has held a variety of positions including:
Director, Financial and Corporate Services, South Eastern Illawarra Health Service, at a time of change following the amalgamation of two Area Health Services into SESIAHS. He was responsible for driving the implementation of a major desktop reporting system that provided financial and staffing information to be made available to managers within the organisation. In addition, John managed a capital works program of some $30million, an information service division, food production services and logistic and warehouse services for the Area Health Service.

Director Finance, NSW Health where his major focus and challenge was to develop concise yet informative financial management reporting for use internally within NSW Health, Health Executive, as well as a Ministerial and NSW Treasury level.

Director, Financial Strategy & Coordination – Olympic Coordination Authority (OCA) One of John’s key roles was to develop, negotiate, monitor and report to Government on the total cost of designated Government Agencies for the provision of Olympic related services including public transport, security, health and waterway management.
